Decision-making by and empowerment of women must be included at all levels of programming and service delivery so as to stop gender imbalance that does not benefit women who bear the brunt of the HIV epidemic as caregivers and surviving spouses, and who also have sexual and reproductive rights which can be removed due to the increasing ‘feminisation’ of the epidemic in countries where more men infect their wives and sexual partners.

With a main theme of ‘Building Gender Equality Strategy in the Response to HIV’, this forum will focus on:

 

1. Sexual Rights
 
2. Personal & Body autonomy
 
3. Gender Mainstreaming in HIV response

Raise awareness among politicians, UN agencies, donor bodies, local and international organizations and decision makers for policies and programs that are gender sensitive

Encourage partnerships in advancing equality to promote gender equity

• Prevailing gender imbalance leads to sexual violence
• Policies should be in place for law enforcement and legal agencies to support women who are victims of violence including marital rapes.
• Partnership between men and women with better communication

Educating and practicing gender equity and sexual health and rights values at individual and family levels which includes understanding of sexual need of HIV + women.
